Tabu
(a.k.a. "Tabu, a Story of the South Seas")

US (1931): Drama/Romance/Silent

In a Polynesian village, a young fisherman (Matahi) is in love with Reri (Anne Chevalier). But she is chosen to be the holy maid and therefore becomes "tabu". They run away from that tradition.

Robert J. Flaherty and F.W. Murnau co-wrote the screenplay and co-directed for Paramount as a silent film, three years after the advent of talkies. It is Murnau's last film; he was killed in an automobile accident just before the film's release. (IMDb)
