Five Star Final

US (1931): Crime/Horror/Drama

The plot involves a tabloid newspaper digging up a 20-year-old story about a murderess who has since changed her name and lives a wonderful existence with her husband and daughter. On the eve of her daughter's wedding, she finds out the story is to be dug up and, after trying desperately to get the story stopped, she commits suicide. Her husband follows suit. Wind gets back to the two men who decided to dig up the old story; one is a cold and heartless business man, who sees dollars in the two suicides while the other feels as though he murdered them and quits the paper. Mervyn LeRoy directs this Warner Bros. indictment of the news media featuring excellent performances by Edward G. Robinson, Marian Marsh, H. B. Warner, George E. Stone, Frances Starr, Boris Karloff and Aline MacMahon. (IMDb)
