What Price Hollywood?
US (1932): Drama
Brown Derby waitress Mary Evans (Constance Bennett) befriends seldom-sober director Max Carey (Lowell Sherman) and is soon in the big-time. She hooks eastern millionaire Lonny Borden (Neil Hamilton), but he soon tires of the Hollywood lifestyle and of playing second fiddle to a star. Carey looks on with interest when he can see straight. (Jeremy Perkins, IMDb)
Sherman steals nearly every scene he's in, and only Bennett's innocence makes her aspiring starlet believable. Many consider this George Cukor film to be the original A Star Is Born.
