She Loves Me Not
US (1934): Musical/Comedy
Curly Flagg (Miriam Hopkins), Philadelphia nightclub dancer, witnesses a murder and runs away to avoid being held as a material witness. Landing in Princeton, she hides out in a college dorm, decked out in men's clothes and haircut by students Paul (Bing Crosby) and Buzz (Edward J. Nugent). Soon, converging on Princeton are: 1) publicity men for Buzz's dad's movie studio; 2) Paul's irate fiancée Frances (Judith Allen); and 3) killer Mugg Schnitzel (Warren Hymer), who wants to rub out Curly. By the time they arrive, yet another girl is after Paul: Midge, the dean's daughter (Kitty Carlisle). (Rod Crawford, IMDb)
Based on the hit play by Howard Lindsay; songs composed for the movie include "Three Cheers for All, That's All," "Put a Little Rhythm in Every Little Thing You Do," "Cocktails for Two," "Straight from the Shoulder, Right from the Heart," "I'm Humming, I'm Whistling, I'm Singing" and the Academy Award®-nominated "Love in Bloom" -- which became so popular that Jack Benny adopted it as his life-long theme song. Remade by Paramount in 1942 as True to the Army, and again by 20th Century-Fox in 1955 as How To Be Very, Very Popular.
