The Scoundrel

US (1935): Film-Noir, Drama

Noël Coward plays Anthony Mallare, a ruthless, cynical, hated publisher who is killed in a plane crash. His ghost must wander restlessly unless someone sheds a tear for him. Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur direct their own script based on real-life New York publisher Horace Liveright, who died broke and friendless. All in all, a disappointing effort considering the great talents involved. (IMDb)
