After the Thin Man

US (1936): Comedy/Mystery/Romance/Crime

The sophisticated and often intoxicated socialites are back in this witty and entertaining sequel to The Thin Man (1934) with W.S. Van Dyke at the helm again. Private detective Nick Charles (William Powell) and wife Nora (Myrna Loy) have returned from a vacation to recuperate from their last sleuthing adventure. But the respite is over when Nick's cousin Selma (Elissa Landi) announces that her husband has gone missing. While Nick has little interest in the case, Nora can't wait to put her own detective skills to work. As it turns out, the cousin's husband has been indulging in hanky-panky on the side, in addition to heavy blackmailing. As dead bodies mysteriously turn up, it's up to Nick and Nora (and Asta) to get to the bottom of the matters -- while keeping their cocktail glasses filled to the brim. James Stewart costars in one of his earlier roles. (amctv.com)
