Gold Diggers of 1937

US (1936): Comedy/Musical/Dance

A musical that proves even insurance salesmen can be fun song-and-dance guys. This late entry in the Warner Bros. Gold Diggers series, directed this time by Lloyd Bacon and Busby Berkeley, presents an insurance salesman (Dick Powell) who falls in love with an ex-chorus girl (Joan Blondell). The couple joins the girl's friend (Glenda Farrell) in a scheme to get a million dollars in insurance money from a Broadway producer (Victor Moore) when he dies. The producer is a hypochondriac, however, and it eventually becomes clear that the only way for the four to make money is if they put on a show the producer has had in the works. (amctv.com)
