Artists & Models

US (1937): Comedy/Musical

Snappy musical helmed by Raoul Walsh with zippy Ida Lupino in the lead. Mac Brewster (Jack Benny) heads an advertising agency specializing in big, splashy song-and-dance numbers. When Mac is hired to host the Annual Artists and Models Competition, one of his employees, Paula Sewell (Lupino), decides to enter. She faces stiff competition from the other, better-connected models contending for the title of the Queen of the Artists and Models.

Songs include Hollander & Robin's Oscar®-nominated "Whispers in the Dark" and "Moonlight and Shadows", "Mister Esquire" by Ted Koehler and Victor Young, and three songs by Ted Koehler and Burton Lane: "Pop Goes the Bubble", "Public Enemy No. 1" and "Stop You're Breaking My Heart."

With Richard Arlen, Gail Patrick, Ben Blue, Judy Canova, Hedda Hopper, Martha Raye and Louis Armstrong. Spawned the 1938 Paramount sequel Artists and Models Abroad. (amctv.com)
