The Adventures of Robin Hood

US (1938): Action/Family/Adventure

Arguably Errol Flynn's greatest role, this is the swashbuckling spectacle about the infamous outlaw and his band of merry men who "robbed from the rich and gave to the poor." Robin Hood fights for justice against the evil Sir Guy of Gisbourne (Basil Rathbone), while striving to win the hand of the beautiful Maid Marian (Olivia de Havilland). A rollicking adventure never outdone by remakes, this epic features great swordplay, music, characters, and storybook. Michael Curtiz and William Keighley directs for Warner Bros. Shot in glorious Technicolor.

The lead role was originally to be played by James Cagney. The production was shelved for two years after Cagney left due to a contract dispute. The role was eventually given to Flynn. (amctv.com)
