Army Girl
(a.k.a. "The Last of the Cavalry" -- UK)

US (1938): Drama/Comedy

A romantic comedy for two thirds of its length, then it suddenly turns into drama. Set against tests involving the newly developed Army tanks and their suitability for replacing cavalry horses, there's a romance between the tank's creator (Preston Foster) and the Colonel's daughter (Madge Evans). When the Colonel (H.B. Warner) is killed in a tank accident, a court marshall develops and the ending will surprise you. It's the kind of story that usually was clever enough to get an Oscar® nom but it failed to pick one up in this category. The Republic Pictures cast also includes James Gleason, Billy Gilbert and Ralph Morgan. (IMDb)
