US (1938): Drama
In this inspirational melodrama, a poor woman (Fay Bainter) becomes the housekeeper for the equally poor family of an absent-minded inventor (Claude Rains). When the inventor has an important discovery stolen, the housekeeper teaches him important lessons of forgiveness and self-discipline that enable him to make an even more important discovery. As time progresses, the family learns that the housekeeper lives the virtues she preaches -- years ago, she gave a child up for adoption, and she is living with the family just to keep an eye on the boy (Jackie Cooper), who is now the inventor's assistant. Edmund Goulding this Warner Bros. film that also features Bonita Granville, Kay Johnson, James Stephenson, William and Edward Pawley and a Max Steiner score.
