When Tomorrow Comes
US (1939): Romance/Drama
Here is a melodramatic etude of brilliant artist, unbalanced wife, acts of God, labor agitation, and doomed love. Charles Boyer portrays a concert pianist in a troubled marriage who meets waitress and aspiring labor organizer Irene Dunne, and whisks her off to scenic Long Island, where a storm maroons them. First the love tempest, then the morning after and revelations about Boyer's marriage, are succeeded by Dunne's surrendering Boyer to his wife (Barbara O'Neil). Remade as Interlude in 1957 and 1968. This was one of the last films that John M. Stahl both directed and produced (his last was Our Wife in 1941). (amctv.com)
