Comedy, intrigue, and suspense are combined in this Ninotchka-inspired satire. Clark Gable is an American correspondent in Moscow who is blackmailed into marrying a die-hard communist streetcar conductor played by Hedy Lamarr. This was the second film pairing of Gable and Lamarr. Their first was Boom Town, which co-starred Spencer Tracy and Claudette Colbert and was released earlier that same year. King Vidor directs for MGM; the cast also includes Oskar Homolka, Felix Bressart, Eve Arden and Sig Ruman. (amctv.com)
