Dr. Ehrlich's Magic Bullet
US (1940): Drama/Biography
Biographical drama about a dedicated doctor (Edward G. Robinson) whose research helped develop a cure for syphilis. Dr. Ehrlich's work puts him in conflict with the staff at the late-19th-century hospital in which he works. William Dieterle's film for MGM was quite an accurate portrayal of the research scientist's life. Hardly surprising, as his family provided notes and background information to the filmmakers. Supporting cast includes Ruth Gordon, Otto Kruger, Donald Crisp, Maria Ouspenskaya, Sig Ruman, Albert Bassermann, Harry Davenport and Louis Calhern. (amctv.com)
