Spencer Tracy portrays Thomas Edison in this sentimental version of the genius's life, and follow-up to Young Tom Edison (1940). According to press releases from MGM at the time of its premiere, Tracy immersed himself in a scholarly study of the life of the inventor, visiting his laboratory at Menlo Park and reading his notebooks. Clarence Brown directs this middling, but sincere, MGM biopix that also features Rita Johnson, Lynne Overman, Charles Coburn, Gene Lockhart, Henry Travers and Felix Bressart. (amctv.com)
