Hit Parade of 1941

US (1940): Musical/Comedy

A small radio station is saved from bankruptcy by a backer (Mary Boland) who invests money for television equipment -- if the owner (Kenny Baker) allows the her daughter Annabelle (Ann Miller) to dance and sing on the screen. But, due to her voice, her singing has to be dubbed by Baker's girl friend Pat Abbott (Frances Langford). The problems start when the owner starts dating Annabelle. The real treats here are the hilarious antics of that king of the illogical, Hugh Herbert, who gets much screen time and the introduction of Johnny Puleo and His Harmonica Gang, always a delight. Ann Miller in an early role plays a straight role but does get to dance some and show her stuff. John H. Auer directs this piece of Republic fluff that also features Patsy Kelly, Phil Silvers, Sterling Holloway and Franklin Pangborn. (IMDb)
