Pinocchio

US (1940): Children's/Fantasy/Animated

Walt Disney's beautiful animated feature (his second) is rich with complex and sympathetic characters, a fascinating story, and dazzling animation artistry. A brilliant piece of filmmaking, based on a story by Collodi about a puppet who is brought to life by a fairy but wants more than anything to become a real boy. Classic children's entertainment, which engages audiences at all levels. Cliff Edwards, who had appeared in numerous films throughout the '20s and '30s, voiced Jiminy Cricket and sang the Oscar®-winning song "When You Wish Upon a Star" which later became the theme song of the Disney Corporation. Selected as a National Film Registry Outstanding Film. Directed by Hamilton Luske and Ben Sharpsteen. (amctv.com)
