The Primrose Path

US (1940): Romance/Drama

This gritty romantic melodrama from RKO features Ginger Rogers as the daughter of an aging prostitute (Marjorie Rambeau) who lures a hamburger-stand owner (Joel McCrea) into marriage. Once he learns about her family, the marriage is off and Rogers is faced with following in her mother's footsteps. Rambeau was a noted beauty in the silent-film days but by this time played mostly aging harlots. Gregory La Cava directs a cast that also includes Henry Travers, Miles Mander, Queenie Vassar and Joan Carroll. (amctv.com)
