Louisiana Purchase

US (1941): Musical/Comedy

Bob Hope stars in this adaptation of Irving Berlin and Morrie Ryskind's Broadway hit, as innocent patsy Jim Taylor, set up by a gang of corrupt Louisiana politicos to take the fall when muckraking U.S. Senator Loganberry (Victor Moore) shows up looking for signs of graft. Lavishly produced (the film earned Oscar® nominations for its art direction and Technicolor© cinematography), with terrific musical numbers including "You're Lonely and I'm Lonely," "It's a Lovely Day Tomorrow" and the title tune. Irving Cummings directs a cast that also includes Vera Zorina, Irene Bordoni, Frank Albertson and Max "Slapsie Maxie" Rosenbloom. (Paramount) (amctv.com)
