Skylark

US (1941): Comedy

Adapted from the hit Broadway play, this film breezily and sophisticatedly takes on a wife (Claudette Colbert) whose husband (Ray Milland) is so workaholic as to ignore her on their fifth anniversary and a romantic gigolo (Brian Aherne) who is more than happy to win her away from him. Colbert and Aherne are in top form as the wife and boyfriend. The script is acerbic, witty, urbane and wise. Mark Sandrich directs this marvelous sophisticated fun and it's a delightful adult romp.
