That Hamilton Woman

US (1941): Biography/Historical/Drama/Romance

This is the story of Emma Hamilton (Vivien Leigh), who raised herself from poverty to become the wife of a British ambassador and the mistress of one of history's most famous warriors, Lord Admiral Nelson (Laurence Olivier). Their affair begins in Naples and continues as they defy the gossips by setting up housekeeping in England before Emma sends him back to war and his death at Trafalgar. Directed by Alexander Korda for Korda/UA.

This film was seen as an attempt to inspire pro-British sentiments before America's entry into WW II and was, therefore, said to be Winston Churchill's favorite movie. Leigh and Olivier were married shortly before production began on That Hamilton Woman. This was the third and final film the couple made together.(amctv.com)
