The Black Swan

US (1942): Adventure

Laird Cregar plays a reformed swashbuckler who becomes governor of Jamaica in this lively Technicolor epic. When he dispatches right hand man (Tyrone Power) to rid the seas of his former cohorts, things get more complicated than envisioned -- especially when a headstrong aristocratic beauty (Maureen O'Hara) gets involved. A vivid production that promises "Seas ablaze... with black villainy, with fiery romance, with breathless deeds of daring... in the roaring era of Love, Gold and Adventure!" Henry King directs a Fox cast that also includes Thomas Mitchell, George Sanders, Anthony Quinn and George Zucco. To help the war effort, the cast and crew made every effort to save film stock. Many of the film's scenes were captured in a single take. (amctv.com)
