Henry Koster directs this Universal picture, a sparkling romantic musical comedy with a grown-up Deanna Durbin. As wealthy Charles Laughton languishes on his death-bed, he makes a gasping request to see the girl his son (Robert Cummings) is about to marry. As she's not close at hand, Cummings grabs hat-check girl Durbin, who charms the old guy right back from the abyss. Now Cummings needs a plan, and Durbin is rather charming, after all. Released in September, 1941. With Walter Catlett, Margaret Tallichet, Catherine Doucet, Gharles Coleman and Guy Kibbee. Remade as I'd Rather Be Rich (1964). (amctv.com)
