Joan of Paris
US (1941): War
When a group of RAF fighters led by a French ace (Paul Henreid) are downed in occupied France, they have to make their way separately to Paris to be rescued, dodging the tenacious Nazi Gestapo the entire way. Helping them are a priest (Thomas Mitchell) and a spirited barmaid (Michèle Morgan), whose patron saint is Joan of Arc. Although this modern day saint falls in love with the RAF leader, she is willing to pay the ultimate price when it becomes clear that she can help her lover and the other airmen to escape. Robert Stevenson directs this RKO Pictures release. Cast includes Laird Cregar, May Robson and Alan Ladd. The film was made before Pearl Harbor, but was not released until America had joined the war effort, helping make it a crowd-pleasing success. (amctv.com)
