Reap the Wild Wind

US (1942): Drama

In a C.B. DeMille Paramount Technicolor potboiler at sea, 19th-century ship captain John Wayne fights for his reputation with shipping company investigator Ray Milland, for his ship with salvage pirates Raymond Massey and Robert Preston, and for his life with a giant red octopus. Salvage-company owner Paulette Goddard nurses Wayne back to health after a shipwreck, though she loses him to the sea creature. Gary Cooper was slated to portray the lead; however, Cooper was committed to The Pride of the Yankees and the Duke took his place. Supporting cast includes Lynne Overman, Susan Hayward, Charles Bickford and Louise Beavers. (amctv.com)
