The Talk of the Town

US (1942): Comedy/Drama/Romance/Thriller

The combination of a tight, witty script and the talents of the leading threesome make this a smart, must-see comedy. Cary Grant, accused of arson and murder in a factory fire, hides out in the attic of old friend Jean Arthur's country house. She also lets a room to law professor Ronald Colman, as he awaits word of his Supreme Court nomination. Grant's case and Arthur both intrigue Colman, and he comes to Grant's defense when he's pursued by a lynch mob. Two endings were shot, and a viewer poll determined who gets the girl. Director George Stevens' Columbia cast includes Edgar Buchanan, Glenda Farrell and Rex Ingram. (amctv.com)
