Ten Gentlemen From West Point

US (1942): Drama/War

The first class at West Point also endured the first drill-sergeant, played here by Laird Cregar in Henry Hathaway's version of the military academy's founding. By graduation time, only the toughest are standing. Among these are the farm-boy George Montgomery and rich-kid John Sutton, rivals for the hand of the lovely Maureen O'Hara. Only when the cadets successfully beat back an Indian attack will Cregar accept them as soldiers. 20th Century-Fox originally planned to shoot the West Point sequences for the film on location in Monterey, California, but instead constructed a replica of the academy in nearby Sherwood Forest. Cast also includes Shepperd Strudwick, Victor Francen, Harry Davenport, Ward Bond, Douglass Dumbrille and Joe Brown Jr. (amctv.com)
