The More the Merrier

US (1943): Comedy/Romance

George Stevens's wartime romantic comedy finds millionaire Charles Coburn, Army Air Force sergeant Joel McCrea, and Jean Arthur sharing a cramped Washington apartment during the wartime housing shortage. Coburn is wonderful as the matchmaking Mr. Dingle, and was awarded an Oscar®. Garson Kanin (uncredited) has claimed responsibility for the entire screenplay. Remade less successfully as Walk Don't Run (1966) with Cary Grant. (amctv.com)
