Seeing Hands

US (1943): Short/War/Drama

This serious entry in the Pete Smith Specialty series encourages industry to hire people with disabilities to help with the war effort. As a boy, Ben Helwig was blinded in an accident while playing baseball. (Or -- from another source -- he's been blind from birth.) He eventually acquired a guide dog and now works in a defense plant. Written by Joe Ansen; directed by Gunther von Fritsch. (IMDb)

This short is included on the DVD release of Lucille Ball's Dubarry Was a Lady (1943).
