Cover Girl

US (1944): Musical/Comedy/Dance

This Jerome Kern and Ira Gershwin musical traces a chorus girl's rise to stardom as a cover girl. Very funny with great dancing by Gene Kelly and lots of good music: "The Show Must Go On," "Who's Complaining?," "Sure Thing," "Make Way for Tomorrow," "Put Me to the Test," "Long Ago and Far Away," and "Cover Girl"by Jerome Kern and Ira Gershwin; and "Poor John" by Fred Leigh and Henry E. Pether. When making Cover Girl, Kelly spent more than a month planning the "alter ego" dance number in which he dances with his reflection. Shooting of the scene took four days. Charles Vidor directs a Columbia cast that also includes Rita Hayworth, Lee Bowman, Phil Silvers, Jinx Falkenburg, Leslie Brooks, Eve Arden and Otto Kruger. (amctv.com)
