Higher and Higher

US (1943): Comedy/Musical

Frank Sinatra's first big starring role is in a musical comedy about a bankrupt businessman (Leon Errol) who schemes with his household staff to come up with some cash. They choose to hoodwink the boy-next-door (Sinatra), who happens to be filthy rich, into marrying a maid (Marcy McGuire) who's posing as the businessman's daughter. The plan is scuttled when con man Victor Borge happens on to the scene, imitating a wealthy aristocrat. Okay musical, but mostly notable for young Frank. Tim Whelan directs a cast that also includes Michèle Morgan, Jack Haley, Barbara Hale, Mel Tormé Paul Hartman and Dooley Wilson. (RKO) (amctv.com)
