Dillinger
US (1945): Crime/Biography
A fine production (one of several Hollywood versions of this brutal life story), which follows the feared gangster from street hood to the top of the FBI's "Most Wanted List," and, finally, to his violent death in a police ambush. Max Nosseck directs a cast that includes Lawrence Tierney, Edmund Lowe, Anne Jeffreys, Elisha Cook, Jr., Ludwig Stössel and Constance Worth. Produced on a shoestring budget by Monogram studios, the film gained some notoriety when it was banned on its initial release in Chicago and other Midwestern cities. (amctv.com)
