Guest in the House
US (1944): Drama
Anne Baxter once again proves to be a wolf in sheep's clothing as a manipulative young woman who moves in with the family of her betrothed (Ralph Bellamy, for once not the jilted suitor), who also happens to be her psychiatrist. She gradually turns the house full of happy, loving people against one another, and they are powerless to stop her. The small cast also includes Aline MacMahon, Ruth Warrick, Scott McKay, Marie McDonald, Jerome Cowan, Margaret Hamilton, Percy Kilbride and Connie Laird.
The original director of Guest in the House was Lewis Milestone, who was stricken with appendicitis on the set after a few weeks of shooting. John Brahm was then brought in to complete the film with uncredited assistance from André De Toth. (U/A) (amctv.com)
