The House on 92nd Street

US (1945): Drama/Spy/War

A groundbreaking film for its docu-drama feel, this depicts counterespionage efforts against Nazi spies in New York, and was produced with the cooperation of the F.B.I. using actual locations. The story's based on an incident in which Nazi agents attempted to steal atom bomb secrets, and director Henry Hathaway adds newsreel footage for atmosphere and authenticity. Actors Lloyd Nolan and William Eythe spent a week at the FBI Academy in Virginia, where they attended classes and underwent basic physical training for their roles as agents in the film. Cast also includes Signe Hasso, Gene Lockhart, Leo G. Carroll and Lydia St. Clair. (20th Century-Fox) (amctv.com)
