The real-life story of famed Jazz Age hostess Texas Guinan (Betty Hutton) begins with young Texas struggling to make ends meet with her mother and father. Winning a rodeo championship, Texas begins a lucrative career, which leads to Broadway and national renown. Despite now being married, she gets involved with gangster Bill Kilgannon (Arturo de Códova) and ends up having to flee from him to Hollywood, where she embarks on a career in silent films. Later, during Prohibition, Texas returns to the East Coast where she becomes the famed "Queen of the Nightclubs." Fanciful history with plenty of period music and a colorful central character directed by George Marshall. Other cast includes Charles Ruggles, Albert Dekker and Barry Fitzgerald.
