The Dolly Sisters
US (1945): Musical/Comedy/Romance
Pinup favorite Betty Grable and June Haver star in this comedic bio of Jenny and Rosie Dolly, a Hungarian sister act who took Europe by storm in the early 1900s. The story focuses on the romance between singer-songwriter Harry Fox (John Payne) and the beautiful Jenny Dolly (Grable). Includes the song "I Can't Begin to Tell You," among the other creaky musical standards that were nostalgic 60 years ago. Standard Fox-Grable musical, and that's pretty okay. Irving Cummings directs a cast that also includes S.Z. Sakall, Reginald Gardiner, Frank Latimore and Sig Ruman.
The Dolly Sisters was the first film produced by noted vaudevillian George Jessel. In all, Jessel produced 14 films, including Tonight We Sing (1953) and Dancing in the Dark (1949). (amctv.com)
