Henry V
(a.k.a. "The Chronicle History of King Henry the Fift with his Battell at Agincourt in France" -- UK, full title)

UK (1944): Drama/War

Made during World War II, at a time when British morale was at low ebb because of constant bombardment from the Germans, Henry V -- with its tale of victory against horrible odds -- was a heartening bit of propaganda as well as a work of art. The young English King Henry (Laurence Olivier) overcomes his youthful reputation and miraculous odds to defeat the French at Agincourt. Olivier's production of Shakespeare's 1599 play is full of pomp and pageantry, retaining more of the flavor of a stage production than the comparatively realistic treatment given the play by Kenneth Branagh in 1989. (IMDb)

Shot in Technicolor and "Superscope". Released in the UK in November, 1944; US release was not until June, 1946.
