Wet Blanket Policy
US (1948): Animation/Short/Comedy
Con man Buzz Buzzard sets up an insurance office and spots a potential sucker in Woody Woodpecker. He greases the sidewalk causing Woody to slide into his office where he convinces him to sign an insurance policy, the catch being that, if he dies, Buzz receives the hefty insurance payment. Of course, at this point, Buzz makes all kinds of attempts to end Woody's life chasing him with shotguns and axes and pursuing him behind the office's wallpaper. Finally, he catches the redhead and is about to feed him to a pack of crocodiles...but Woody turns the tables, leaving Buzz to escape the gators' jaws.
This was the first cartoon to use "The Woody Woodpecker Song" (sung by Gloria Wood and Harry Babbit) and remains the only animated short to be nominated for Best Song. Directed by Dick Lundy. (IMDb)
