Madame Bovary

US (1949): Drama

French author Gustave Flaubert (James Mason) is on trial for writing the "indecent" novel Madame Bovary. To prove that he wrote a moral tale, Flaubert narrates the story of beautiful Emma Bovary (Jennifer Jones), an adulteress who destroyed the lives of everyone she came in contact with. Vincente Minnelli directs this excellent adaptation of Flaubert's novel for MGM. Cast includes Van Heflin, Louis Jourdan, Gene Lockhart, Gladys Cooper, Harry Morgan, George Zucco and Ellen Corby.
