My Foolish Heart

US (1949): Romance

After a long absence, Mary Jane (Lois Wheeler) visits her schoolfriend Eloise (Susan Hayward), and Eloise's daughter Ramona (Gigi Perreau). Eloise drinks too much and is unhappily married to Lew Wengler (Kent Smith). Eloise falls asleep and remembers her time with her true love, Walt Dreiser (Dana Andrews), at the beginning of World War II. She recalls the events that lead up to her split with Mary Jane, and how Lew married Eloise rather than Mary Jane.

Mark Robson directs the screenplay by Julius J. and Philip G. Epstein from J.D. Salinger's short story, "Uncle Wiggly in Connecticut." Salinger so despised this adaptation of his story that he never again allowed any of his work to be adapted to film. (Goldwyn/RKO Radio) (IMDb)
