The Furies

US (1950): Western/Drama

From a hard man comes a hard daughter in this Western directed by Anthony Mann. T.C. Jeffords' (Walter Huston in his final film) determination built his huge New Mexico cattle ranch, "The Furies," and his spirit has been passed down to Vance Jeffords (Barbara Stanwyck). Father and daughter clash over T.C.'s choice of a new bride, but engage in open war when the senior Jeffords hangs a man that Vance loves, Juan Herrera (Gilbert Roland), leader of a group of squatters living on ranch land. With the help of another flame, the gambler Rip Darrow (Wendell Corey), Vance aims to drive her father from his estate and expose him to the elements and justice of the plains. Cast also includes Judith Anderson, Thomas Gomez, Beulah Bondi, Albert Dekker and Wallace Ford. This is the only film in which Huston and Stanwyck appeared together. (Paramount) (amctv.com)
