Wabash Avenue

US (1950): Musical

Andy Clark (Victor Mature) discovers he was cheated out of a half interest in partner Mike's (Phil Harris) business, now a thriving dance hall in 1892 Chicago. Unable to win it back, Andy schemes to make Mike's position untenable. He also hopes to turn Ruby Summers (Betty Grable), Mike's motor-mouthed burlesque queen, into a classier entertainer, and incidentally to make her his own. But at the last minute, Andy's revenge comes unravelled. Henry Koster directs this Fox remake of Grable's Coney Island (1943) with a cast that also includes Reginald Gardiner, James Barton and Margaret Hamilton. Songs include "I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate", "Honey Man", "Are You From Dixie?", "I Remember You", "Harrigan" and the Oscar®-nominated "Wilhemina." (IMDb)
