US (1951): Drama/Romance/War

Finding love in Pier Angeli's bleak Italian village does not prepare John Ericson and his war bride for life in the crowded tenements of New York. When they move in with his parents after the war, the uncomfortable situation exacerbates Angeli's cultural dislocation. When she makes the difficult choice to leave the tenement after giving birth, he must decide whether or not to follow. Fred Zinnemann directs this MGM release with a cast that includes Patricia Collinge, Richard Bishop, Peggy Ann Garner, Ralph Meeker and Bill Mauldin. Incidentally, this is Rod Steiger's film debut.
