The Sniper

US (1952): Crime/Film-Noir/Drama/Thriller

Apparently rejected by women all his life, a loner with a high-power rifle (Arthur Franz) starts on a trail of murder. The police are baffled by the apparently random killings until their psychologist (Richard Kiley) comes up with some ideas. This taut psychological study -- a pioneer of its genre -- is directed by Edward Dmytryk. Cast also includes Adolphe Menjoy, Gerald Mohr and Frank Faylen (as cops) and Marie Windsor. (Kramer/Colubmia) (IMDb)
