Miss Sadie Thompson

US (1953): Drama/Musical

This is a remake of Rain (1932) that starred Joan Crawford, Walter Huston and William Gargan. At a lonely military outpost on American Samoa, sticky heat alternates with torrential rain. A ship quarantine strands Sadie Thompson (Rita Hayworth), a "breezy dame" who sets the Marines afire... and self-righteous Mr. Davidson (José Ferrer), powerful head of the Mission Board, who suspects Sadie is a fugitive from the notorious Emerald Club of Honolulu. Meanwhile, Sadie is courted by crude but good-hearted Marine Sgt. Phil O'Hara (Aldo Ray). Curtis Bernhardt directs in 3-D for Columbia. Jo Ann Greer dubbed Hayworth's voice for "Hear No Evil," "The Heat Is On" and the Oscar®-nominated "Blue Pacific Blues." (Rod Crawford, IMDb)
