The Story of Three Loves(a.k.a. "Equilibrium" and "Three Stories of Love") US (1953): Musical/Romance/Drama
Set on a cruise ship, this film focuses on three passengers who remember past loves -- a ballet choreographer, a governess, and a former trapeze artist. In "The Jealous Lover," the choreographer (James Mason) recalls the ballerina he met, loved, and lost (Moira Shearer). In "Mademoiselle," the governess (Leslie Caron) remembers a brief, mysterious meeting with a handsome stranger (Farley Granger). And, in "Equilibrium," the trapeze artist (Kirk Douglas) remembers ruefully how he lost his love (Pier Angeli) because he repeated past mistakes. Vincente Minnelli directs "Mademoiselle," and Gottfried Reinhardt directs "The Jealous Lover" and "Equilibrium." The cast for the trilogy also includes: "The Jealous Lover" -- Agnes Moorehead and Miklos Rosza; "Mademoiselle" -- Ethel Barrymore, Ricky Nelson (at 11) and Zsa Zsa Gabor; and "Equilibrium" -- Richard Anderson, Steven Geray and Ken Anderson.
