Strategic Air Command
US (1955): Drama/Action
Piloting a nuclear-armed bomber becomes just another suburban occupation in this flag-waving propagandist film from the coldest era of the cold war. Jimmy Stewart is a baseball star once an ace WW II bomber pilot. The Strategic Air Command, then and now America's main nuclear strike force, inexplicably finds itself short-staffed and recalls the aging Stewart to active duty. Though war may come at any moment, and Stewart and his crew must remain constantly poised to fly to Moscow, the movie is an accurate depiction of mid 1950s peacetime operations, meaning that about the most exciting thing to happen in this film is some bad weather during landing. Anthony Mann directs for Paramount. Cast also features June Allyson, Frank Lovejoy, Barry Sullivan, Alex Nicol, Jay C. Flippen, Rosemary DeCamp and Harry Morgan. (N. Roese, IMDb)
