Italy-Spain (1957): Drama

Following his successes with Muerte de un ciclista / Death of a Cyclist (1955) and Calle mayor / Main Street (1956), Juan Antonio Bardem wrote and directed this story of national reconciliation with the Communist Party. Censorship forced the producers to edit the director's cut, which made the origin of the conflict between the two main characters unclear. After that, the discussions that they have seem forced and unnatural. The film was a failure with both critics and audiences.
