Beginning in 1900 with a cameraman who is photographing World War I, the loves of three generations of Parisians are shown in this sentimental French film. Each section is filmed in accordance with the moviemaking techniques current at that time. Claude Lelouch directs a cast that features Marthe Keller, André Dussollier, Charles Denner, Carla Gravina, Charles Gérard, André Falcon and Nathalie Courval.
