Kick Me

US (1975): Animated/Short

A dazzling fantasia of stylized animation, beginning with a stick-figure pair of legs kicking a ball around. Before too much time passes, the ball morphs into other round objects, including a few hundred spiders! The tides turn in the legs' favor at the end, though, and the film ends as it began. The musical score is based on a rigidly metronomic beat- one beat per kick. As the cartoon progresses, the beat goes into various subdivisions, such as 8th notes, 16th notes, etc.

This short was included in the 1977 feature film compilation, The Fantastic Animation Festival. When the feature was released several years later on Media Home Video, this particular short was eleiminated. (The Big Cartoon DataBase)
